Boyscout Maguire, a grad student at Montclair State, has fun and gains confidence by performing regularly in productions of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
Boyscout Maguire is a graduate student at Montclair State University. Most of the time, she can be identified by vibrant blue hair and denim on denim, but a few night each month she ditches her regular aesthetic to dress up as Dr. Frank N. Furter and perform in a shadow cast of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
With local Rocky Horror production company, The Home of Happiness, Boyscout has the opportunity to perform with some of her closest friends. Playing Frank has improved her confidence in herself and given her a greater love for her body and her creativity.
She first performed as Frank in January 2017, and since then she has become one of the most respected members of her cast, branched out to playing other roles from the movie and has starred as Frank in front of hundreds of people.
“I wish this was an acceptable look to wear in public. I look so good as Frank.” ~ Boyscout talking to one of her cast mates after putting on her costume and makeup.
“I’ve never been a performer. But there’s something incredibly empowering about being on stage in that kind of provocative outfit, commanding the attention of everyone in the room. It gives me room to experience a type of confidence I don’t have in my daily life” ~ Boyscout on why she enjoys performing in Rocky.
